Bunny was born June 13, 1936 at the Emma Ziegler home in Monona, Iowa to parents Agnes (Mista) and Edmund Girot. Marilyn was baptized on March 27, 1937 at the Methodist Church in Monona by Rev. George Turner. She attended church and Sunday school there and was confirmed by Rev. Roscoe Jerald on June 19, 1949. She loved horses growing up and going on trail rides. Marilyn, or “Bunny” as she was nicknamed as a child, attended the Monona School from kindergarten until graduation on May 20, 1954. She also loved playing basketball throughout school and went with her team to State Tournament in 1951 and 1952.
Bunny met Ron Fox at the Luana Prom, which she was attending with someone else! Bunny and Ron married after graduation on May 30, 1954 at the Methodist church by Rev. Hilmer. Ron and Bunny lived and farmed on the Blaha farm east of Postville. Bunny received instruction and became a member of St Paul Lutheran in Postville, Iowa on Dec. 19, 1954 with the Rev. Charles Witt as pastor. The class Bible verse was from Psalm 122, “I was glad when they said let us go into the house of the Lord”.
During the time they lived on the Blaha farm, they were blessed with three children, David, Debra, and Diana. The family lived on the farm from 1954 until 1966, when they moved to the home farm and farmed there until 2010. Bunny worked right alongside Ron, doing whatever needed to be done on the farm from the day that they were married until their retirement. She was not only a “farmer’s wife” but an equal farmer to Ron.
Bunny enjoyed her family and friends, her garden and her lawn, dancing, bowling, and playing cards. She attended many of her grandchildren’s events and would always be called upon first to babysit the grandchildren and then the great grandchildren.
Bunny served on various church committees, spent many hours working at The Big 4-Fair and Dreamland. Bunny also worked many elections at The Grand Meadow School and at The Fine Arts Building in Postville. Bunny loved watching the Iowa Hawkeyes (win or lose).
