1A, District 4 football race could be battle of heavyweights

Some of the best football in Class 1A could be played in northeast Iowa this fall, where realignment and shifting enrollment trends have created what appears to be a superdistrict. No fewer than four of the district’s six teams won or shared their district championship a year ago, and all four return talent.

Beckman Catholic and Cascade shared the Class 1A, District 5 title last year while Columbus Catholic won the 1A, District 4 title outright. MFL MarMac was part of its own superdistrict in Class A last year, earning a share of a three-way championship.
