LuNida Bertha Landt

LuNida Bertha Landt, 96, of Luana, Iowa, passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2024, at the Elkader Care Center, Elkader, Iowa. LuNida was born on November 9, 1927, on the Hoth Family Farm near Elkader, Iowa, to Edwin Ernst and Viola Marie (Schloetzer) Hoth. She was baptized on April 29, 1928 and confirmed on April 6, 1941, both at Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Center, Iowa. LuNida also attended the Upper Pony Hollow Country School (Boardman #1), through the eighth grade.

LuNida was united in marriage to Lorenz Landt on October 10, 1949, at Zion Lutheran Church, Clayton Center, Iowa. Six children, Betty Lou, Mary Ann, Dennis, Roger, Lorna Mae and Loren, were born to this union. LuNida was a loving and dedicated farmer’s wife and mother. She stayed busy on the farm, milking cows, cooking meals and tending to the chickens and ducks. She was a long-time member of St. John Lutheran Church, Luana, Iowa, where she was a member of the Faith Circle. She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards and puzzles, but most of all, she loved spending time with her family. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Survivors include her children, Betty Lou (Robert) Handke, Monona, Mary Ann Koehn, Monona, Dennis (Sharon) Landt, Monona, Roger Landt, Luana, Lorna Mae (David) Jones, Luana and Loren Landt, Luana; seven grandchildren, Shira (Brad) Fedeler, Amy (Brian) Manning, Heidi Landt, Heath (Chris) Landt, Troy Handke, Preston (Sophie) Landt and Cindy (Darrin) Brink; two step-grandchildren, Chad (Tess) Koehn and Kristy Koehn; fifteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild on the way; sister-in-law, Ivanelle Hoth, Elkader and her nieces and nephews.

LuNida was preceded in death by her husband, Lorenz Landt, on March 12, 2015; her parents, Edwin and Viola Hoth; her siblings and their spouses, Harry Hoth, Harold (Rachel) Hoth, Dwane (Joann) Hoth, John Hoth and Ivanelle (Donald) Henning and her daughter-in-law, Mary Landt and her son-in-law, Richard Koehn.

Funeral Services will be held on Thursday, September 5th, 2024, at 11 am, at St. John Lutheran Church, Luana, Iowa, with the Rev. Jeremy Wolfe as the officiant.

Visitation will be held one hour before services at the church on Thursday, September 5th, 2024.

Burial will follow in St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Luana, Iowa.
