James (Jim) Lloyd Henkes

MONONA — James (Jim) Lloyd Henkes, 75, of Monona, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 16, 2023, at Mayo Hospital in La Crosse, Wis. surrounded by family.

A funeral service was Tuesday, Nov. 21 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona with Rev. Erika Lenth as the officiant. Burial was at St. Patrick Cemetery, Monona.

Jim was born on June 5, 1948, Monona, to Donald and Iva (Topel) Henkes. He was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona. Graduated from MFL High School in 1966. Attended Area 1 Vocational Technical School for general mechanics and soon after began farming.

Jim was united in marriage to the love of his life Mary Lou Huinker on June 28, 1969 at St. Patricks Church in Monona. To this union of 54 years, six children were born. He loved spending time with his family, farming, collecting antiques, classic cars, fishing, playing electric guitar with the Buckaroos, and spending time at the river. He will be deeply missed by his family and friends.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Lou Henkes, Monona; his daughter, Sara (Henkes) Harris and her husband Michael of Bloomington, Ill. and their family, Emma, Ethan, and Evan Harris; his daughter, Beth (Henkes) Leichty and her husband Kurt of Wayland and their family, Taylor (Leichty) Classon and her husband Joseph of Marion, Kayla Leichty of Cedar Rapids, Kaden, and Morgan Leichty; his son Andrew Henkes and his wife, Jessica (Johanningmeier) Henkes and children, Lizzie Herzmann of Dyersville and Taylor Herzmann, Ambryss and Emberly Henkes; his son Jonathan Henkes of Dayton, Ohio and his family Madalynn, Pierce, and Jenna Henkes; his son Michael Henkes of Monona, Laura and their daughter Brooklyn; nieces, nephews and many friends.

Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Iva Henkes; his brother L'Dean Henkes; and his daughter, Theresa Henkes.

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service are in charge of arrangements.
