Three former state qualifiers lead Bulldog girls’ track team
MONONA — A trio of former state qualifiers leads the MFL MarMac girls’ track and field team into a new era led by one of the team’s most decorated former athletes.
Kylie Sandstrom, MFL MarMac’s first female Drake Relays qualifier and a three-time state qualifier, takes over as coach this year, replacing long-time coach Becky Holt.
“It’s exciting (to coach for the first time) but I’m also a little nervous,” she said. “There are some big shoes to fill.”
Sandstrom said the first week of practice has involved a lot of speed training as well as time to get the girls into track shape.
“I’m pushing the girls a little bit, even in the first week, just to see what their ability is,” she said. “We have a week and we have a meet, so we don’t have a lot of time to get in condition. It’s been quite the first week.
“I’ve seen a lot of progress in the first week, so that’s a huge relief to me,” she said.
