School Board discusses Return to Learn Plan

   MCGREGOR — MFL MarMac Superintendent Dr. Dale Crozier spoke about what could happen when the District returns to class in August during last Monday’s monthly meeting with the its Board of Directors.

   Crozier said the School District must plan for three possibilities when classes resume – that there could be full on-site classroom instruction, that there could be no on-site instruction and required continuous learning (such as what took place since schools closed) and that there could be a combination of the two forms of instruction, including a scenario where schools go back but are later required to close again.

   “There are all kinds of rumors and untruths and fake news all over the place,” he said. “What really we know for sure is that we don’t know anything.”

   Crozier said he and the Board will be setting up committees that will address social and emotional issues, safety issues and curriculum-related issues. He said they will also need to address Internet access, technology, transportation and leadership. These items will be part of a Return to Learn Plan that must be filed with the Department of Education by July 1. Even after that date, Crozier said the School District can make changes to the plan, including after the school year has begun.

   “We’re not really under the gun yet but we need to start thinking about it,” he said.
