Young Bulldog baseball team wraps up tough season

MONONA — A young MFL/MarMac baseball team wrapped up a difficult season last Saturday (July 8) with a regional loss to Clayton Ridge/Central.

Featuring a roster with just two seniors who saw regular playing time, the Bulldogs finished 3-25 overall and in eighth place in the Upper Iowa Conference. The team’s two biggest offensive attacks came in the season’s first eight days, leading to victories over Postville and Turkey Valley. It went on to drop 16 games in a row before scoring a second victory over Turkey Valley at a tournament in Fayette.

Pitching was an issue for the Bulldogs all season, as the team’s earned run average came in just under 10 runs per game. No fewer than 13 players toed the mound for MFL/MarMac this season, with nine of those seeing starts. The team also struggled at times with the bat, hitting just .217 with a .262 slugging average.
