Troester selected as new McGregor mayor

MCGREGOR — A McGregor native and long-time resident has been selected as the community’s new mayor.

The City Council last Wednesday named Lyle Troester to replace Harold Brooks, who unexpectedly resigned at the June council meeting. Troester is a McGregor native who left the community for several years to pursue a career in sales before returning in 1994. He has never before held a role in city government.

“I’ve always supported the town with my job as much as I could, bringing people into McGregor,” he said after Wednesday’s meeting. “I love the area. I managed people from all over the Midwest and I would bring them here for meetings.”

Troester said he was approached about taking the job.

“I’ve always cared for McGregor, so I just thought, ‘why not,’” he said.

Troester said he hopes to bring some pride to the community of 870.

“I hope I can add something and help people feel that, ‘Man, we’re lucky to live here,’” he said.
