Students repaint statues at local Veteran’s Memorial

MONONA — MFL MarMac art students spent much of the late part of the school year working to restore a community landmark.

Roger Bollman, of AMVETS Post No. 27, said Art Teacher Michelle Meyer and her students worked in coordination with the AMVETS to repaint the five statues of soldiers at the Veteran’s Honor Roll Memorial at Gateway Park.

The memorial features a granite memorial to local residents who gave their lives for the country as well as American, Iowa and POW flags and stone pavers. In front of and adjoining the granite memorial are soldiers representing the five United States service branches on which paint had flaked off.
