Stargazers gather for annual Astronomy Night

MARQUETTE - Stargazers of all ages gathered to learn about the cosmos Friday as the Driftless Area Wetland Centre played host to its annual Astronomy Night.

The event was organized by MFL MarMac Community School District teachers and the Starsplitters of Wyalusing, who brought a pair of large telescopes that allowed visitors to look at celestial bodies that are light years away.

“We’ll look at the moon, and there’s a big nebula in Orion, just to the right of it that we’ll look at,” Starsplitter member Tom Bennett said. “Mars is over there, too.”

The Starsplitters are based out of Wyalusing State Park, south of Prairie du Chien, which is one of just two Wisconsin state parks that have an observatory.
