School Board discusses possible Homecoming changes

MONONA — Major changes could be coming to MFL MarMac High School’s annual Homecoming celebration. High School Principal Larry Meyer outlined the possible changes during the June meeting of the School District’s Board of Directors last Monday.

Meyer said what the school would like to do this year is move the annual parade from its traditional time on the Friday afternoon of the game to 6 p.m. Thursday while moving the powder puff football and ironman volleyball games from their traditional Sunday afternoon times to Wednesday.

Meyer said the reasoning behind moving the parade is that students would like to see more people out in the streets.

“(We’d like to) give it a shot once and see,” he said. “Typically if it’s at 2 o’clock in the afternoon most people are at work.”

Superintendent Dr. Dale Crozier said he asked Meyer to bring this to the School Board because it is the type of change that could prompt discussion.

“The parade in the evening could make it easier for some businesses to participate … as well as (improve) parent participation,” Board President Gina Roys said.
