School Board discusses options for snow day makeup

MONONA — The MFL MarMac Community School District Board of Directors had a lengthy discussion last Monday about a topic heavily on the mind of any parent with children in school — when they would make up snow days.

Through the end of last week, the District has had 10 snow days this year, a number that Superintendent Dr. Dale Crozier said Wednesday matched the most weather-related cancellations that he can remember. Thursday’s full day of school was so eventful that Crozier posted a Facebook video of his playing his guitar and singing a song about the event.

Crozier told the Board Monday that the school district has a number of options that it can use to cut down on the number of days that it needs to make up at the end of the year. He said it can add time to the end of days, eliminate professional development days, go to school on the scheduled day off the Monday after Easter (noting that he preferred to leave Good Friday as a school holiday) of that it could even go on Saturdays.

“I know people don’t want to go into the middle of June,” Crozier said.

The superintendent said he would like to get teacher input on what the district should do about the situation.
