Police service calls up in 2018

   MONONA — The Monona Police Department was busier in 2018 than the year before according to statistics provided by Police Chief Jo Amsden during last Monday’s Monona City Council meeting.

   The Police Department totaled 2,552 calls in 2018, up 1.3 percent over the year before.

   The largest jump came in the domestic/disputes category, where local police responded to 35 calls in 2018 after seeing just 10 the year before. The Department also saw a large jump in fraud reports, from 10 in 2017 to 28 last year.

   The Department responded to 43 narcotics-related calls in 2018 after seeing 30 the year before, and responded to 28 civil complaints after seeing 22 the year before.

   Assaults and fights were down by almost half, from seven in 2017 to four in 2018, while theft reports dropped slightly, from 41 in 2017 to 37 in 2018.
