Near perfection - Bulldogs dominate rival Postville

MONONA — Sophomore Max Havlicek threw MFL MarMac’s second no-hitter of the season and Cedrick Drahn followed that with a one-hitter as the Bulldogs were nearly perfect in a doubleheader sweep at Postville last Monday.

Havlicek and the Bulldogs won the opener 10-0 while Drahn and the ‘Dogs won the nightcap 13-0. They also topped Sumner-Fredericksburg 6-1 Friday, completing a strong week.

All told, MFL MarMac out-hit the Pirates 20-1 on the night, with eight of their hits going for extra bases. Havlicek and Drahn combined to strike out 14 Pirate hitters while walking just three.

Havlicek needed just 78 pitches to pick up his first varsity victory five nights after he struggled in his first varsity start. His no-hitter is the team’s second of the year after Nathan Johanningmeier pulled the feat in a victory over Tripoli May 23.
