Monona mayor, council members reject pay raise

MONONA — Members of the Monona City Council and Mayor Lynn “Marty” Martinson rejected proposed pay raises for their positions.

Martinson brought up the possibility at the Dec. 3 Council meeting, noting that the last increase had been 23 years ago. Any raises that would have been passed would not have gone into effect until after the November, 2019 City Election. Each of the four council members present (Heather Lange being absent) indicated that they were fine with their current pay. Two even indicated that they were unaware that they received compensation for the positions when they ran for them. Martinson also indicated that he was fine with the mayoral pay. The mayoral position currently receives a $3,000 yearly salary while Council members receive $30 per council meeting.
