Monona making progress implementing visioning plan

MONONA — Less than two years after completing its latest Community Visioning Plan, significant progress has been made toward implementing community improvements that were cited.

From new signage installed last year to the Butterfly Trail and City Park restrooms that are currently under construction to improved downtown lighting, many areas in need of work have been addressed.

The plan was put together by Monona’s Community Visioning Committee in conjunction with Trees Forever, Iowa State University, the Iowa Department of Transportation and JL Bruce and Company. The community’s first visioning project was in 2007. Eight years later, Trees Forever’s Emily Swihart noticed the progress the community had made since its first visioning project.

“When she walked in she said, ‘You guys have done everything you said you would, how would you like to apply again,” Monona Chamber and Economic Development Director Rogeta Halvorson said.

The grant did not include funding, though it did include technical advise that helped facilitate the visioning process.
