Monona hosts All-Veterans parade, ceremony

MONONA — Clayton County veterans converged on Monona Saturday for the annual All-Veterans parade and program.

Commander Steven Schultz, an executive officer who serves at the Executive Officer in the Navy Recruiting District based out of the Atlanta, Ga. area, saluted veterans during a wide-ranging speech that touched on both the reason he joined the military and continues to serve and the importance of service today.

“I always felt it was an honor to serve our country,” he said. “That’s why I continue to serve today.”

Schultz recalled the Clayton County veterans parades that were held when he was growing up, often in his hometown of McGregor. He said the veterans made a major impression on him – particularly as they swapped stories after the parade at the local American Legion hall.
