Monona to host Veteran’s Day Parade

MONONA — Monona has been chosen to host Clayton County’s annual Veteran’s Day Parade Nov. 10, the route for which was approved during Monday night’s regular city council meeting.

The Clayton County All-Veterans Day Celebration, which will be co-sponsored by the Northeast Iowa Vietnam Veterans Association and AmVets Post No. 27, will feature both a parade and a program. The parade will run from City Park to the corner of Main and Center Streets and will be followed by a the laying of a wreath and a 21-gun salute at the flags in front of City Hall. A speaker and meal will follow at the Community Center.

Ed Blume, a representative of the Northeast Iowa Vietnam Veterans Association, said other details of the event are still in the planning stages. He said this will be the Vietnam Veterans Association’s second year of organizing the event after it had previously been organized by the American Legion. Last year’s event was held in Strawberry Point. Blume said plans are to rotate the event among Clayton County communities that are interested in hosting it.
