Monona Historical Society to celebrate 50th anniversary with open house

MONONA — On Nov. 16, 1967, 20 people attended the first-ever meeting of the Monona Historical Society, a group that less than four years later would open the Monona Historical Museum.

Fifty years later, the Historical Society will celebrate with a week-long open house. The museum will be open from 1 to 4 p.m. each day and will feature woodcarving displays and demonstrations as well as refreshments and museum tours.

Of the 20 who were original members of the Historical Society, four still survive including current museum curator Carol Marting.
