Monona Council votes to terminate police officer

The Monona City Council approved a resolution to terminate police officer Brian Berger during a special meeting Tuesday (April 23).

Mayor Lynn "Marty" Martinson read a resolution indicating that he and Police Chief Jo Amsden recommended the action based on "chronic physical incapacity to perform the work of the position."

Berger was informed of the decision Sunday.

City Council's vote on the action was unanimous with all five members of the Council present for the meeting. The decision was effective today (April 23).

Martinson said an officer that is currently being trained by the police department will fill the vacancy.
