Monona Council approves larger contribution to tourism campaign

MONONA — The Monona City Council Monday approved a larger donation to Clayton County Development’s 2020 marketing campaign during its regular meeting last Monday at City Hall.

Monona Chamber and Economic Development Director Rogeta Halvorson requested the additional funds that she said would assure that Monona is featured on a large advertisement. The past city contribution to the campaign has been $500, which is what had been budgeted for the contribution this year. Halvorson requested an increase to $1,000, noting that $800 would get the city featured in a promotion. The Council approved the $1,000 donation following a brief discussion.

Council also gave final approval to an application to participate in a first-time home buyers program. Upper Explorerland Regional Planning Commission representative Katie Nolte was on hand for the second time in as many meetings, noting that grand funds are designated to provide assistance to qualified home buyers for down payment and home rehabilitation funds. Applicants must meet income guidelines and could receive up to $2,500 toward the purchase of a home.
