Monona council approves garbage rate hike

MONONA — The Monona City Council last Monday gave final approval to a motion amending rates for residential and commercial garbage collection in the city.

Council members reviewed a list of commercial accounts and fees that will be invoiced when Town and Country Sanitation takes over refuse collection in the city July 1. The city’s solid waste collection committee will meet June 12 to determine new commercial fees and recommend them for Council approval at the June 17 meeting.

The new residential rates, which passed a first Council reading May 20, will include a minimum fee of $20.50 per month, which will be for no more than two 33-gallon cans or four garbage bags. Additional fees apply for additional cans or bags. Commercial rates range from $20 to $62 per month depending on the average weight of weekly pickup.
