Mississippi River drops below flood stage

MCGREGOR — For the first time in several months, the Mississippi River is below flood stage in McGregor.

The river dropped from flood stage Tuesday afternoon, ending a period of 86 days at flood stage, the longest stretch since the Great Flood of 1993, when the river was flooded for most of the summer.

The river first rose above flood stage March 18 and had been in at least minor flood stage ever since. It crested three times during the period, with the highest mark being 21.75 feet on April 26.
