MFL MarMac to present “Annie”

MONONA — One of the most popular musicals ever to grace Broadway will take the stage at MFL MarMac High School this weekend as the high school drama department presents “Annie.”

Director Diane Fisk said the version of “Annie” that the school is doing is similar to the one that people are familiar with. All the songs are there, as are all of the major characters, though some of them with a different look.

“Some of the dialogue is a little bit different than if they saw the movie with Carol Burnett, but otherwise the basis is the same as that one.

Freshman Abby Schellhorn plays the lead role of Annie and is the first freshman lead in an MFL MarMac show since Chelbe Feuerhelm played Dorothy in “The Wizard of Oz” five years ago. Though making her high school debut Schellhorn is a veteran of the stage, having played roles in both middle school and on the stage at the Elkader Opera House, including “Oliver,” “Shrek,” “Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory” and “Bye Bye Birdie.”
