MONONA — One of MFL MarMac’s longest-serving educators was honored during Wednesday’s Senior Awards Night Ceremony as the School District’s Teacher of the Year.

Fourth-grade teacher Christy Matthew has spent her entire career teaching in McGregor, working at both the kindergarten and fourth-grade level. The award is selected by Masonic Lodge No. 72 of Elkader. Lodge representative Robert Meyer presented the award to Matthew, who has spent her entire career teaching in the district.

   She called the award “surprising.”

“It’s not something that we ask for or need, but it was nice to get recognized,” she said.
