Marquette youth uses letters to bring smiles to veterans

MARQUETTE — Three years ago, Marquette 8-year-old Dylan Martin had a simple question for his mother Abigale after he heard about Veterans Day. Now that simple question has led to an act of generosity that many area veterans will remember for years to come.

“Three years I asked my mom, ‘What is Veterans Day?’” Dylan said. “She told me it was about thanking our veterans and supporting our state and country.

“I felt like I should do something, so I thought maybe should I do letters or should I not,” he said. “I thought, ‘I think I should do letters.’ And then I asked my mom if I could do letters.”

Dylan’s first letters went to his friend Mike and his grandfather. All told he wrote about 20 letters that first year.
