Luana receives approval to build new fire station

LUANA — The Luana Fire Department will have something extra to celebrate during its centennial celebration this year.
At its January meeting, the Luana City Council gave the department approval to proceed with construction of its new building after the department reached half of its $300,000 fund-raising goal for the facility.
“When we first started in 2015, we thought our goal was to hit 2018, which is our centennial year,” Department Administrator Matt Baade, who is in charge of the building project, said.
Baade said the Department decided that it would not begin construction until it reached half of its fund-raising goal. He said it did not appear the Department would make 2018 until it recently received a generous donation.

“Now that we hit (the half goal) we are going to be able to build,” he said.
