Local youth writing letters to all 50 states

MONONA – A local fifth-grader has taken her time away from school this spring to reach out to people all over the United States. Lauryn Sandstrom has set a goal to write to somebody in every one of the 50 states and is in the process of reaching that goal.

“It started off being a letter a day and then we went to 50 states because we wanted a more challenging goal,” she said.

Lauren's mom Kylie Sandstrom said the idea started during a family church service as they talked about how words make them people.

“We just asked everybody if there was something they could do to make everybody happy that we can't see and writing a letter was one of the ideas that was brought up,” she said.

Kylie reached out to people she knew and also posted a request on Facebook asking if there were people in other states who Lauryn could write to. In less than four days they had at least one person in every state.
