Local 4-H club gives new life to old gravestones

MONONA — A local cemetery has a clean new look thanks to the hard work of members of the Monona Jr. Feeders 4-H Club.

Club leader Beth Henkes said Council Hill Cemetery Board member Lisa Peterman contacted the club to see if they could help clean the cemetery. Henkes said the group chose to do the work as its annual community service project.

“Every year we try to do something different,” she said.

A total of 19 club members and seven adult leaders helped with the project, which included cleaning lichen from the grave markers and then scrubbing them clean.
