Iowa author discusses book about Iowa POWs

MONONA — Author Linda Betsinger McCann talked about her new book, “Prisoners of War in Iowa during World War II,” during the Murphy-Helwig Library’s monthly Coffee House program Tuesday.

McCann, who has penned more than 20 books about Iowa history, spoke about the state’s two major POW camps and 17 associated branch camps that held prisoners from Germany, Italy and Japan.

“To me the stories are what make it interesting,” she said. “We all know facts and figures and all that aren’t necessarily interesting, but when I put the stories with it, that’s what’s fun to me.”
