Hay Days set for June 8

MONONA — Celebrate the great outdoors during Monona’s annual Hay Days celebration June 8.

An outdoor theme, “In the Heart of the Great Outdoors” is featured in this year’s event, including a showing of the award-winning documentary, “Decoding the Driftless.”

“What we’re doing is we’re focusing on the Driftless, which Monona is definitely a part of,” event co-chair Teresa Graham said.

Following the film, Producer George Howe will be on hand to talk about the making of the film, which was named Best Picture at the Los Angeles Independent Film Festival in February. Much of the production was filmed in northeast Iowa, including parts in Clayton County.

This year’s festival will also feature an expanded 10 1/2 hours of live music. Country band Triple Threat will kick off the music from 1:30 to 4 p.m. and will be followed by the classic rock, pop and country sounds of Bruce Bearinger from 4 to 8 p.m. Hay Days wraps up with a street dance from 8 p.m. to midnight as Side Project plays its brand of classic rock.
