Funerals continue during coronavirus outbreak

MONONA — Newly-implemented laws preventing gatherings of 10 or more people have not slowed the local funeral business, though it has changed the size of gatherings.

Josh Grau, president and owner of the Grau family of funeral homes in 10 area communities, including Monona and Postville, said both funerals they had last week were traditional.

“We had a full funeral, we just didn’t have full attendance,” he said. “It was a private visitation, private service and private burial.”

Grau added that his homes have added the option for families to host a larger Celebration of Life service gathering at the funeral home after the restrictions are listed at no additional cost to the families.
