Extended Monona trail to become reality
MONONA — Monona’s proposed Butterfly Trail Extension will soon become a reality.
Last Thursday the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Natural Resource Commission approved the City’s request for a $75,000 grant for Phase II of the trail, which will run from the existing trail at the Butterfly Garden to Gateway Park. The trail will go past both the city’s Aquatic Center and MFL MarMac’s Monona Center.
“Our trail is used and people want longer routes to walk,” Mayor Fran Passmore said. “I think it’s an excellent opportunity to extend (the trail).”
