Crozier named area Superintendent of Year

MONONA – MFL MarMac Superintendent Dr. Dale Crozier has again been recognized by his peers as one of the best school district superintendents in the state of Iowa.
Last week Crozier was honored as the  Region 1 Superintendent of the Year. Region 1 represents the Keystone Area Education Agency, which covers 23 public school districts in Allamakee, Chickasaw, Clayton, Delaware, Dubuque, Fayette, Howard and Winneshiek Counties as well as 28 non-public schools in those counties. Crozier received the award for the second time. He was honored at the School Administrators of Iowa conference earlier this month.
“It’s good to be recognized by your peers,” Crozier said. “Your peers at least think you have a clue into what’s going on with schools and the legislature and the process of school. There’s lots of processes and it’s very complex.”
Crozier has been superintendent at MFL MarMac for 17 years, leading the district through a period of declining enrollment and budget challenges. During Crozier’s first year in the district, it served 1,069 students. Last year’s number was 768 students, a decline of 28 percent over the period.

“The only way you can adjust to that is by reducing your number of (staff),” he said. “We have to do more things.”
