County fair entry numbers up 8.2 percent

ELKADER — Clayton County 4-H and FFA members have entered 3,219 exhibits for the county fair competition according to Tammy Muller, County 4-H & Youth Program Coordinator.

The number represents an increase of 245 exhibits (8.2 percent) over last year’s 2,974 entries. Divisions showing an increase include the Market Beef, Breeding Beef, Bucket Bottle Calves, Dairy, Sheep, Horses, Meat Goats, Dairy Goats, Dogs, Rabbits, Pets, Clover Kids, and Communications. 

The exhibits that will be displayed include: 164 Market Beeves, 153 Breeding Beef, 141 Dairy, 13 Bucket/Bottle Calves, Swine (28 derby pens, 15 non-derby pens, 55 derby individuals, 39 non-derby individuals), Sheep (9 market pens, 39 market individuals, 32 breeding sheep), Horses (44 halter classes, 70 performance classes, 89 timed events), 91 Meat Goats, 43 Dairy Goats, Dogs (56 agility, 27 obedience), 111 Rabbit exhibits, 6 Other Livestock, 65 Poultry, 302 Showmanship entries, seven Pets and 26 Clover Kid Pets, 1,408 Non-Livestock Exhibits (Agriculture & Natural Resources, Expressive Arts, Family & Consumer Sciences, Personal Development, and Science, Mechanics, & Engineering), 96 Clover Kid Exhibits, 46 Fashion Revue/Clothing Selections/$15 Challenge Exhibits, 36 4-H Communication Presentations and Working Exhibits and eight Share-the-Fun entries.
