Closings, cancellations and postponements

The following closings, cancelations and posponements are related to the COVID-19 virus (coronavirus) pandemic. This information will be updated as information becomes available.

 

Freedom Bank

Freedom Bank locations on Monona, Postville, Elkader, Waukon and Decorah will provide services through its drive-up windows.

 

Casino Queen, Marquette

Casino Queen, Marquette, is temporarily closed.

 

NEIT

The NEIT office in Monona is closed to the public. Service and business operations continue.

 

MercyOne Elkader Medical Center

   MercyOne Elkader Medical Center will not allow visitors in its facilities. Exceptions may be made on a case-by-case basis for:

   • Children admitted to the hospital
   • Patients receiving end-of-life care

   For approved exceptions, only one visitor per patient will be allowed. They must be:
   • 18 or older
   • Either immediate family members, powers of attorney, guardians or patient
representatives
   • Healthy with no symptoms of illness including respiratory or fever

 

Murphy Helwig Library

   The Murphy Helwig Library, Monona, will be closed for two weeks effective Wednesday, March 18, after which time the situation will be evaluated. Librarian will be available via phone or e-mail. E-books and audio books are accessible through the library Web site.

 

Outlook Newspaper office to temporarily close

   The Outlook office in Monona will temporarily close to the public beginning Wednesday, March 18. The newspaper will still be printed and will answer and respond to both telephone (563-539-4554) and e-mail. News tips and submissions of any kind are greatly appreciated. The Outlook office will reopen once the danger of community spread of the COVID-19 virus has passed. The Outlook's Mid-America sister newspapers in Postville and Calmar are also closed to the public.

 

Veterans Memorial Hospital, Waukon, announces visitor restrictions

   Beginning Wednesday, March 18, all visitors to Veterans Memorial hospital will be restricted.  This is in an effort to stop the spread of the COVID-19 Coronavirus within the hospital.

   In the event of a special circumstance, such as a terminal patient, family members may call the hospital at 563-568-3411 and speak with the charge nurse about the situation.

Other VMH changes ...

   Anyone with flu-like symptoms that is requesting to be tested for COVID-19 must meet all criteria to qualify for a test.   Screenings will be performed over the phone by calling the hospital at

563- 568-3411 and asking for the COVID-19 phone line.

   Other restrictions have also been put into effect immediately at Veterans Memorial Hospital.  All outpatients and visitors with special circumstances should enter through the hospital’s main entrance where they will be screened at the door.

   Urgent care patients are asked to call the hospital at 563-568-3411 to set up an appointment ahead of time, especially if coming in with respiratory symptoms. 

   Emergency patients are still asked to come to the ER entrance of Veterans Memorial Hospital.

   There will be no immunization clinic on Wednesday, March 18, and there will be no foot clinic Monday, April 6.  All classes, support groups, community wellness laboratory testing, and all other public programs have been cancelled until further notice.

   Veterans Memorial Hospital will continue to post updates through the local newspapers and radio stations as well as the hospital’s Facebook page and website at www.veteransmemorialhospital.com

  

Luana Community and Recreation Center

   The Center will be closed through at least March 31 following Gov. Kim Reynolds’ declaration of a Public Health Emergency .

 

Monona City Hall

   Monona City Hall remains open at this time, though staff asks that any business that can be conducted over the phone, 539-2355. Bill payments can be dropped in the box outside the City Hall main entrance or at http://www.govpaynow.com/gps/user/pic/a0001c (a fee will apply).

 

Bars and Restaurants

Northeast Iowa bars and restaurants are not permitted to allow dine-in service due to Gov. Kim Reynolds’ declaration of a Public Health Emergency. The following area eating establishments have announced that they have carry-out service available:

MFL MarMac School Information

   • School is closed until at least April 13

  • Parents/guardians may make appointments with building principals to pick up student essential items and locker materials Thursday, March 19 from noon to 4 p.m. E-mail Larry Meyer (larry.meyer@mflmm.k12.ia.us) at the high school, Denise Mueller (denise.mueller @mflmm.k12.ia.us) at the middle school, and Kathy Koether (kathy.koether@mflmm.k12.ia.us) at the elementary school for appointments.

   • The state is in the process of waiving the requirement for 1,080 hours of instructional time, meaning that school could still get out on time.

   Marquette City Hall is open by appointment only. Call City Hall to set up an appointment.

 

McGregor Public Library

   The McGregor Public Library has announced that it is closed until further notice.

 

Clayton County offices

   Nearly all Clayton County offices are closed until further notice, though essential public services will continue. Appointments are required.

   Law Enforcement Center and services will continue with extra protocols in place. Essential court proceedings are still taking place.

   The Clayton County Board of Supervisors recommend suspending all public gatherings at this time. If you have questions, you may contact the corresponding offices.

   The Fish Fry set for April 3 has been canceled. There will be a drawing for raffle prizes April 3 among tickets that were already sold.
