City Council to appoint new member soon

The Monona City Council held a special session to address a Monona zoning code violation on Tuesday, May 23, 2017.
The meeting started with a closed session and was later opened to the public. The Council passed the item unanimously based on the advice from the city attorney, Greg Schiller.
The Council then discussed replacing Randee Koenig, as she recently stepped down as a member of the Monona City Council. Since there is a vacant seat on the Council, the Council must appoint a new member to finish out the term by the end of 2017. The new member will be appointed during the June 19 meeting. Since the Council seat will be vacant at the end of 2017, the open seat will be placed on the ballot in November that would lead to a three-year term.

The City Council heard recommendations about the new development in the Gordon Subdivision. Out of the many items discussed, the name of the subdivision might change to Gordon Estates. There was talk about the establishment of services from Black Hills Energy, Alliant Energy and Northeast Iowa Telephone. The details of street width, surface of street and other factors were discussed.
