Carnival cancellation forcing Clayton, other county fairs to change plans

NATIONAL — A cancellation just more than a month before opening day of the Clayton County Fair has the Fair Board scrambling to find a new carnival.

The fair announced on its Facebook page last Sunday that “due to unforeseen personal and financial issues, the carnival we originally booked for the fair is unable to come.”

Fair Board President Mark Troester said he learned June 27 that Sweet Fun Concessions and Concessions, which is based out of Queen City, Mo., would not be able to fulfill its obligations to not only the Clayton County Fair, but also the Fayette and Allamakee County Fair.

“He financially can’t do it,” Troester said.

He said the carnival owner believed he had money lined up for the trip but that the source of that money proved to be a scam.
