Bulldogs send seven first place winners on to district competition

\After having won the Upper Iowa Conference meet in their home gym one week ago, the Bulldogs were ready for a repeat performance at the sectional meet which was held in Postville Saturday. The Bulldogs were ready to give it their all and did not disappoint as they won the meet by a 48 point margin as they earned 251 points. All Bulldogs contributed to the team score as they all finished in the top four.

Team scores are as follows:

MFL MarMac                     251.0
South Winneshiek               203.0
Sumner-Fredericksburg      194.5
Postville                               119.0
Starmont                                74.0
Clayton Ridge                      50.0
Central Elkader                     43.5
Turkey Valley                        36.0

With the win, the Bulldogs qualified to compete in the team duals and were slated to wrestle at Dike New Hartford Tuesday night. MFL MarMac was scheduled to wrestle East Buchanan.

The Bulldogs had seven first place winners at the sectional who will move on to district action Saturday. They are Ethan Stubbs, 106; Michael Egan, 132; Brady Olson, 138; Riley Doeppke, 145; Nathan Johanningmeier, 152; Garret Keehner, 170 and Korby Keehner, 220. All first and second place winners at the district will move on to the state meet in Des Moines the following week.

Coach Chet Bachman said, “This was one of those days you dream of as a coach. To have a day like this is what coaches work for. This type of success only comes around a few times in a career.”

He went on. “Our win exemplifies what can happen when the kids work together as a group and feed off each other. They worked together as a polished unit. We have had very good teams in the past but  maybe not quite as polished as this group.”
