Bulldogs second in first-ever State Bass Tourney

MONONA — A single fish was enough to land MFL MarMac in the record books as having one of the state’s top bass fishing teams in the state.

The team of Logan Engelhardt, Brittney Kober, Braden Landt and Maccoy Pritchard placed second in the first-ever Iowa High School Bass Team Championship at Pleasant Creek Lake in Palo May 11.

Teams consisted of two boats with two students and a captain each. Captains for boats in the winning team were high school science teacher Dan Anderson and district superintendent Dr. Dale Crozier. A second MFL MarMac team had boats captained by Tim Hexom and Galen McShane captained boats on the second team. Students on the second team included Kashton Mathis, TJ Hexom, Cullen McShane and Bryce Diehl. MFL MarMac was the only school in the tournament to enter two teams.

Kober, who fishes with her dad, said she learned about the tournament from an e-mail that high school principal Larry Meyer sent.

“I had an interest in finding a good group,” she said. “I’ve never targeted bass before so I thought this would be a fun opportunity to try it. It was fun.”
