Bulldogs score key victory in UIC opener

MONONA — MFL MarMac showed it will be a player in the Upper Iowa Conference volleyball race Thursday night, coming back from set one heartbreak to down West Central 3-1 in a battle of preseason conference favorites.

West Central rallied from eight points behind late in the first set for a 26-24 victory before the Bulldogs won the final three sets, 25-11, 25-20, 25-23.

Coach Kelly Winter called the victory “a good indication of where we’re going to be.”

“We want to be at the top of the conference and I think biting off this one was huge,” she said. “We started off with some real tough matches, and that helps us for the rest of the season.”

Winter said the key to the match was that her team played well under pressure.

“They didn’t give up when things could have gone either way,” she said.
