Bulldogs fall just short at Clayton Ridge

MONONA — Josef Von Handorf scored five touchdowns, including the game winner in the fourth quarter, as Clayton Ridge hung on to edge MFL MarMac 33-29 Friday in the Class A, District 5 opener for both teams.

“This one hurts,” MFL MarMac coach Dan Anderson said after the final whistle sounded..

Von Handorf was a handful for the Bulldogs to bring down all night. The 5-foot-10, 170-pound senior rushed for 271 yards while scoring on runs of seven, eight, 24, 26 and 48 yards and accounting for 52 of the Eagles offensive yards..

“Give credit to Von Handorf and give credit to their offensive line, how they were sticky with their blocks - they didn’t just fire out, hit a guy and slide off, they stayed with their blocks and our guys had a hard time getting off blocks,” Anderson said.

“He was very elusive, tough to tackle … just a good running backs, we’ll just have to go back to the basics (of run defense),” he said.

Clayton Ridge converted five of its first six third-down conversion attempts and scored the go-ahead touchdown on a fourth-and-five situation.
