Bulldogs begin baseball season with troubles

The MFL MarMac Bulldogs traveled to Charles City for a doubleheader on May 25.
The first inning started out poorly for the Bulldogs, as they gave up six runs. The second inning show more promise as Charles City did not score. The third inning again showed improvement, but the defense was still unable to prevent scoring two runs. The fourth inning had the same results but that was enough to end the game with a final score of 10-0, Charles City.
Freshman J.T. Stocker pitched three innings and threw 53 pitches. Senior J.P. Murphy pitched one inning and threw 47 pitches. Both pitchers gave up nine hits and 10 runs, while having five walks and two strikeouts.
The second game of the doubleheader was another struggle for the Bulldog pitching. The first inning had two runs scored on the Bulldogs. The second inning saw the defense struggle as Charles City scored five runs. The third inning showed the Bulldogs pitching and defense tighten up play and allowed no runs to be scored. The fourth inning was lax for the defense as Charles City was able to score three more runs, which that ended the game.
Sophomore Michael Egan pitched two innings, throwing 51 pitches. Freshman Cedrick Drahn also pitched for two and threw 34 pitches. Freshman Ethan Stubbs had the only hit for the team and had one stolen base.
The baseball team traveled to Postville to face the Pirates for a doubleheader on May 30.
The first inning was scoreless as both teams played a stout defense. The second inning saw the Bulldogs come alive as they score two runs and halted the Pirates from scoring. The third inning showed that the Bulldogs still carried the momentum and they scored another run. The fourth inning was scoreless but the fifth inning was positive for the Bulldogs as they scored another two runs, making the score 5-0 heading into the sixth. The Pirates came alive and scored three runs, cutting the Bulldogs lead to two. The Bulldogs held on and were still alive heading into the seventh inning. The final inning was the collapse of the Bulldogs as they gave up another three runs, handing Postville the win with a final score of 6-5.
 
J.P. Murphy pitched four innings, throwing 82 pitches. Murphy gave up one hit, three walks and had six strikeouts. Max Havlicek pitched for an inning and 2/3, throwing 43 pitches, while giving up four hits and three runs. Cedrick Drahn pitched one inning, throwing 35 pitches. Drahn allowed four hits and three runs.
