Benzing is Monona’s first Eagle Scout in 10 years

MONONA — Beau Benzing almost became a statistic. Like many other Boy Scouts, his journey almost stopped short of his ultimate goal, that of becoming an Eagle Scout.

   Unlike many others, Benzing resisted the urge to quit. Sunday he became another statistic – that one Monona-based Troop 38’s first Eagle Scout in 10 years.

   Benzing said his struggles came as there were no other kids his age in the troop.

   “There was only one other kid close to me in age that was active and he never ended up getting his Eagle and there were a couple of other kids that transferred out or kind of just fell out or never really showed up after a couple of years, so it was basically just me for my age group and one kid close to me in age, a year younger,” he said.
