2018 a growing year for Bulldog athletes

2018 was a growing year for MFL MarMac athletics. Nearly every team saw improvement from the year before, with several positioning themselves for strong conference and postseason runs this coming year.

The Bulldogs’ lone Upper Iowa Conference titles came in wrestling, where four individuals took state titles. The lone state qualifiers were in wrestling and track-and-field.

Reviews are for teams that finished their seasons during the 2018 calendar year.

Boys’ Basketball

The Bulldog boys’ basketball team suffered through a rare losing season, finishing 7-15 and in fourth place in the overall conference race. The ‘Dogs won four of their first six games before dropping their final two before the holiday break. They won two out of three after the break, but just one game after that, in overtime at Clayton Ridge.

Senior Mason Hertrampf led the Bulldogs with 14.6 points per game and 44 3-pointers while sophomore center Tyler Kurth averaged 12.7 points and 7.9 rebounds. Hertrampf, who scored his 1,000th career point late in the season, was a first-team all-conference selection while Kurth was a second-team pick. Levi Ferguson and Cedrick Drahn were honorable mention picks.
